The Center for Craniofacial Molecular Biology (CCMB) would like to congratulate Jessy Galindo on his successful completion of the USC JumpStart Program in Dr. Yang Chai’s lab! The ten-week summer research program offers the opportunity for hands-on learning and mentorship within a variety of disciplines to undergraduates from underrepresented communities interested in pursuing graduate education. Participants engage with knowledgeable research staff and faculty, who introduce them to relevant technical skills and valuable insight through experiential learning. A dental assistant with an extensive clinical background, Galindo brought to the team an important perspective because at the heart of all research is the real-world impact of these discoveries. He remains grateful for this opportunity and hopes to become a dentist, not only for himself but also for his family. Through the collaborative efforts of all involved, the program exemplifies the importance of mentorship and diverse viewpoints, a vital combination that continues to drive research innovation and success.
